The Warren Golf Club

New Captains 2025 - 2026

Roy Westhorp - Gentlemen's Captain

Firstly I must say what a honour and privilege it is to be selected to represent The Warren Golf & Country Club as your Club Captain.
My golfing journey has been long and varied, as a youngster I lived in Loughton and would cycle to Abridge Golf Club to Caddie for a reward of £2.50 most weekends and school holidays, the target being to buy a set of Sam Snead golf clubs.

Once I had purchased them I was off, playing High Beech, Grange Farm but mainly Hainault Golf Club.  College, work and family life interrupted my golf for a while but in the early 1990’s I joined Warley Park Golf Club and was very honoured to be there Club Captain in 2008.

Memorable Events:
Hole in one Romford Golf Club hole 17
Hole in one Warren Golf Club hole 17
Warley Park Club Captain 2008
Warren Golf Club Captain 2026

Forgettable Events:

Being hit by a golf ball by both son’s
Falling in a lake while on tour in Turkey

In 2014 I moved to Little Baddow and made one of my best decisions ever, becoming a member of The Warren Golf Club in 2017, playing alongside my brother Stephen and his friends I felt very much at home.  I had previously played at the Warren on a number of occasions with Steve over the past 35 years and am now very privileged to have joined his group of friends new and old. A truly amazing group of people at the Warren members and staff.  I will do my upmost for the members and The Warren Golf Club as your Club Captain.

The Lady Captain Karen and I are both supporting Farleigh Hospice as our chosen charity and would like to thank you all for your generosity and support during our year.

Karen Mitchell -  Ladies' Captain

I moved to Woodham Walter 10 years ago when we renovated a cottage  in the village and I joined the warren active gym where I saw a poster for the ‘get into golf programme ‘ and I decided to see what golf was all about.

I was introduced to Andy Shakespear and I must say I set him a challenge, as at 57 years old I had not played any sports since leaving school, as I was a busy working mum with 3 children.  I loved golf immediately and found it very addictive. The group sessions were once a week and I attended all of them and after countless hours on the range I plucked up the courage to join the Warren Ladies Section.

They were very welcoming and I settled in quite quickly playing in the weekly competitions and caddying for the Harris bowl team.

Being a member at the warren has totally changed my life and I have enjoyed new friendships and social experiences.  I am looking forward to playing golf with as many members as I can and attending and supporting at matches whenever possible.

I have decided to support a local charity  Farleighs Hospice who are very supportive in the local community so I hope that alongside all our members we can raise some money for this great cause.

I am delighted and honoured to have been asked to be Lady Captain this year and am looking forward to working alongside the new men’s captain Roy Westhorp and I will do my best to support our ladies section.
